100% Biofuel flight
By IAG | November 12th, 2012 | Posted in Aviation News | No CommentsTake a look at this news. We have seen many biofuel blends being tested by airlines. But here we have a 100% biofuel powered flight. This news is far bigger than it looks at first glance. It means the biofuel deployed was a complete drop in replacement for aviation turbine fuel (Jet A). A successful test is therefore a guid for where commercial aviation could be headed. Imagine a fuel supply that does not depend on a few global regions for supply? Imagine also that not only widespread (global?) sources of supply – but no matter what happens politically there is always going to be a many places that are reliable and not subject to some crazies upsetting the global economy. Imagine a world where radicals don't have their hands on the world economy's fuel supply? Sounds like heaven.
Expect the world's airlines to be very excited by this test. Clearly governments need to do their safety approval testing. Likely freighters will be the first commercial airplanes to run on the pure biofuels. But it does not matter who starts – it matters how soon this starts. The sooner the better. We say well done to the Canadians for doing this test.
