Viking bringing back the Twin Otter

News from Canada to make every plane junkie smile – its coming back! Those amazing DH planes with floats are getting a new lease of life. As Viking puts it, "Perhaps the best testimony to the timelessness of the Twin Otter’s design is the fact that it remains today the largest-selling 19-passenger commuter airplane in the world."

The design is 40 years old. But demand is still there and they have apparently 27 orders for new builds. The new builds will be known as series 400.

There is even talk of bringing back the Turbo Beaver. (picture) Unfortunately we are unlikely to see new builds using radials – arguably the most stirring sound ever to come from a plane. If you never heard one you would not understand. Its like the sound of a Porsche flat six. Either you get or you don't. These are airplanes with, dare we say it, character.
