Iran is in aviations news a lot. A year ago a Falcon Jet carrying the commander of the Revolutionary Guard was on board and died. Then in November a transport plane carrying soldiers crashed and over 40 people died. Also around that time, there was a helicopter crash that killed six. A Google search with the words "Iran air crashes" provides the evidence that military crashes are not the only ones. So they clearly need new planes. The sanctions must be hurting.
So news that Iranian interests are buying MD-80s raises eyebrows. There are those sanctions, you know. How can Iran be buying these planes? No doubt this matter is being researched by lots of authorities today. These planes might be bought by interests covering for the government.
