A great story on the BBC about this once great airline. The Swiss still fume about the loss of the airline and, more importantly, the national "loss of face". For a small nation, having a flag carrier was very important to the national psyche. The destruction of the airline caused humiliation. Coming down from a self-created fantasy must have been a shock. Little Switzerland was perfect, was it not? The world trusted the Swiss with their dirty money, surely they were the cleanest people around.
No, in the end its managers were are incompetent as everyone else. Just as greedy and stupid, too. Even the replacement for Swissair did not work. The court case will hopefully bring some necessary reality into idyllic Swiss life – and toss a few crooks into prison, to boot. Is embarrassing the nation a crime in Switzerland? Maybe that charge could stick.
